The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2026 Community Good Grants Program. Nonprofit organizations serving Vanderburgh County are invited to apply now through Monday, February 23, 2026.

Community Good Grants are awarded to charitable partners addressing a wide range of local needs. Funding is available to support programs and projects that make a meaningful impact in Vanderburgh communities.

Vanderburgh Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Vanderburgh County: Norah Ahmed of Evansville Day School, Kris Lau of Signature School, and Margaret (Maggie) Raben of Reitz Memorial High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are recognized for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

"All of this year’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program recipients from Vanderburgh County exemplify excellence both in and beyond the classroom. Their dedication to academics, community engagement, and leadership stood out throughout the scholarship process, reflecting a level of maturity and purpose well beyond their years," said Alysia Rhinefort, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of full-time undergraduate study leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Scholars also join the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects them with resources and opportunities to lead on campus and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI).

"I am extremely honored to be a recipient of this incredible opportunity! I am deeply grateful to God and to all those who have supported me in reaching this milestone. I have not decided where I will attend next year, but I plan to pursue a pre-med track. I look forward to seeing how this honor will shape my future and guide my service to Indiana," said Margaret (Maggie) Raben, Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.

In nominating Vanderburgh’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, the committee considered academics, community involvement, extracurricular activities, work experience, honors and awards, personal statement and goals, essay, and impromptu essay and interview. After narrowing the field of applicants, nominees were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI), the statewide administrator of the program, for final selection.

Since its inception in 1997-1998, Lilly Endowment has supported this program with tuition grants totaling more than $505 million, benefiting over 5,400 Indiana students. The program’s primary purposes are:

To raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana.
To increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations play.
To encourage and support Lilly Scholars’ engagement with Indiana leaders to improve quality of life statewide.

The Community Foundation Alliance is proud to announce that applications are now open for its Community Scholarship Program, offering hundreds of opportunities for students across Southwest Indiana and in select areas of Illinois and Kentucky.

These scholarships, made possible by generous local donors, provide financial support for students pursuing college, university, technical programs, or other post-secondary education paths.

Justin O’Connor Named 2025 Recipient of the Mark Kniese Scholarship

The Community Foundation Alliance is proud to announce that Justin O’Connor has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Mark Kniese Scholarship. This year marks the 23rd year of the scholarship, with more than $65,000 awarded since its creation. This scholarship will support O’Connor with his studies in Biomedical Health Science at Purdue University.

The Mark Kniese Scholarship was established by August Neal in memory of Mark Kniese, a beloved former counselor at Camp Carson in Princeton. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional dedication and rapport with campers while exemplifying the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

O’Connor has been a part of Camp Carson since he was six years old, first as a camper and later as a staff member.

“Camp holds a very special place in my heart… it's always been somewhere that I can leave behind my outside worries and focus on the present,” he said. “As a staff member, it has meant being able to experience what it feels like to truly spend the time bettering others instead of just yourself.”

He credits his years at camp with inspiring his career path. “Because of camp, I'm able to stay grounded and remember that the reason I want to study medicine is to better the lives of those around me.”

While applying for the scholarship, O’Connor reflected on the legacy of Mark Kniese. “He was someone who put the campers before himself and put his entire heart into the work that he did. As a counselor, I strove every day to follow in his footsteps and to carry on his legacy.”

Now in its 23rd year, the Mark Kniese Scholarship continues to honor a counselor who served campers and made a difference in their lives. Through the generosity of those who contribute to this fund, the scholarship not only supports higher education but also inspires recipients to carry forward the spirit of service and compassion that defined Mark Kniese’s life.

The 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Application is Now Open in Vanderburgh County

The 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Vanderburgh County through the Vanderburgh Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 147 scholarships statewide and three scholarships in Vanderburgh County.

LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Vanderburgh County through the Vanderburgh Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance, is open to all Indiana residents who:

graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2026 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2026;
intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and
meet the criteria specific to Vanderburgh Community Foundation. Visit vanderburghcf.org/lilly-endowment-community-scholarship-program for complete information regarding the Vanderburgh County application criteria.

Students can learn more about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Vanderburgh County and apply for this scholarship by visiting the Vanderburgh Community Foundation website. Applications must be completed and submitted by August 25, 2025, to be considered.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: academic ability, community activities, extracurricular activities/employment, honors and awards, personal statement and goals, application essay, finalist impromptu essay, and finalist interview. Six finalists will be nominated by the Vanderburgh Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $505 million. More than 5,400 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

The Vanderburgh and Warrick County Community Foundations are now accepting applications for their annual Community Good Grants Program. Community Good grants provide funding to charitable organizations for new or ongoing programs and projects that meet a broad range of local needs. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, February 21, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

Community Good Grants are awarded to charitable organizations located in or directly serving Vanderburgh and/or Warrick Counties. Funding is available to support various local needs, with priority given to organizations that demonstrate:

Evidence of realistic organizational planning and management
Project methodology with a preventative approach to addressing issues and solving problems
Clear, actionable plans for program/project evaluation
A commitment to promoting collaboration among organizations or institutions to prevent duplication of services
A focus on long-term planning, financial stability, and sustainability

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Vanderburgh County - Addison Greaney, Signature School, Simon Theby, Reitz Memorial High School, and John Vogel, Signature School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

“The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is often a life-changing opportunity for students,” said Sidney Hardgrave, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “This scholarship is extremely competitive and requires the completion of a rigorous process including an extensive application, essays, and interview. We are fortunate in Vanderburgh County to have many talented students with a heart for service to their communities.”

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years. The scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars may also participate in the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects both current scholars and alumni with resources and opportunities to be active leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and Indiana Humanities.

After the field of applicants was narrowed down, nominees were submitted to ICI, the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, which approves the final selection of scholarship recipients.

The Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County Awards $40,000 in Grants

The Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County awarded $40,000 in grants to three local organizations. During their annual meeting at the Evansville Museum of Art, History, and Science in October, members of the Men’s Fund awarded their $30,000 Impact Grant to the Albion Fellow Bacon Center.

Albion Fellow Bacon Center will use this year’s $30,000 Impact Grant to support expenses related to the renovation of the kitchen at their emergency shelter. Evansville Christian Life Center and Ozanam Family Shelter were each awarded $5,000 grants as finalists for this year’s Impact Grant.

Many of our donors have chosen to honor their loved ones, communities, high schools, colleges, and professions by establishing scholarship funds through their local Community Foundations in Daviess, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick Counties. These funds support the annual Community Scholarship programs, providing valuable opportunities for students in Southwest Indiana. Thanks to their contributions, applications are being accepted now, with a deadline of Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

"We are excited to once again provide scholarship opportunities to students in our Southwest Indiana region,” says Melinda Waldroup, Chief Program Officer at the Community Foundation Alliance. “By offering these scholarships, we are not only investing in individual students but also in the future of our communities. Each scholarship is unique and supports students with a variety of backgrounds, educational goals, and economic statuses. 2025 LILLY ENDOWMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

(Vanderburgh County, Indiana) The 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Vanderburgh County through the Vanderburgh Community Foundation. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 147 scholarships statewide and three scholarships in Vanderburgh County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Vanderburgh County through the Vanderburgh Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2025 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2025;
intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: Academic Ability, Community Involvement, Extracurricular Activities/Employment, Honors and Awards, Personal Statement and Goals, Application Essay, Impromptu Essay, and Interview. Six finalists will be nominated by the Vanderburgh Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $490 million. More than 5,300 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

Evansville, Indiana – The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County’s Impact Grant. The grant committee will consider proposals for program activities or capital projects that benefit underserved residents of Vanderburgh County. The Men’s Fund 2024 Impact Grant award amount will be $30,000.

The Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County focuses the efforts of male philanthropists to create positive social change by funding projects that address current needs in the community. The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is now accepting online applications for the Community Good Grants Program. In recognition of the ongoing challenges of local nonprofit agencies, this year’s grant cycle is accepting applications for both one-year and multi-year programs/projects. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, February 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

The Community Foundation awards Community Good Grants to charitable partners located in or directly serving Vanderburgh County. Funding opportunities are available to support a broad range of local needs. Consideration will be given to organizations that demonstrate:

· Evidence of realistic organizational planning and management;

· Project methodology utilizing a preventative approach to addressing the issues and solving problems;

· Solid, realistic plans for program/project evaluation;

· Desire to promote collaboration among organizations or institutions to prevent duplication of services; and

· Commitment to long-range planning, financial stability, and sustainability.

Vanderburgh Community Foundation Announces the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipients

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is pleased to announce the three recipients of the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Vanderburgh County – Amishi Gandhi and Jeremy Li from Signature School and Luke Woodyard from Reitz Memorial High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

“This year’s recipients impressed the committee with their accomplishments, leadership skills, and maturity,” said Sidney Hardgrave, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact for the Vanderburgh Community Foundation.

Amishi Gandhi is the daughter of Kaushai and Shimoli Gandhi. She is interested in becoming an attorney. Amishi served on the Teen Advisory Board for the Newburgh-Chandler Public Library and the Vanderburgh County Teen Court. She also volunteers with Youth Resources, Tri-State Food Bank and the Browning Funeral Home Genealogy Project. Amishi participates in numerous activities at school including the Mock Trial team, Math Club, Model UN, French Club, and Rotary Interact Club.

Jeremy Li is the son of David Li and June Pan. He is interested in a career as a cardiothoracic surgeon. During high school, Jeremy founded a STEM tutoring program. He has also been active with Indiana Youth and Government and Tri-State Food Bank. He participated in the Youth Conference on National Affairs. At school, Jeremy has been involved with the USA Biology Olympiad, Mock Trial team, Student Council, and Model UN.

Luke Woodyard is the son of James and Laura Woodyard. He is interested in studying industrial engineering. Luke has volunteered with Incognito Instructors, Boys and Girls Club, and been an active member of Scouts BSA, where he achieved recognition as an Eagle Scout. During high school, he participated in tennis, cross country, and track along with being a member of the Academic Team and International Club.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years. The scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars may also participate in the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects both current scholars and alumni with resources and opportunities to be active leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and Indiana Humanities.

In determining Vanderburgh County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar nominees, consideration was given to academic achievement, involvement in the community, extracurricular activities, two essays, and an interview by the LECSP Nominating Committee. After the field of applicants was narrowed down, nominees were submitted to ICI, the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, which approves the final selection of scholarship recipients.

“Our community has many students who excel both academically and in service to others. The selection process is never easy,” said Hardgrave.

Lilly Endowment created the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program for the 1998-99 school year and has supported the program every year since with grants totaling in excess of $505 million. More than 5,200 Indiana students have received the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship since the program’s inception.

“Generous donors have honored their loved ones, high schools, or professions by endowing scholarship opportunities through the Community Foundations,” says Sidney Hardgrave, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “We administer many scholarship funds established by individuals, families, and organizations to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Programs.”

Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County Announces Six Grants Totaling $135,000

The Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County hosted their Annual Meeting on November 1, 2023 and awarded the 2023 Impact Grants to three local nonprofits, each of whom received a $35,000 grant. This year’s recipients are:

· Albion Fellow Bacon Center to renovate the laundry facilities at the domestic violence shelter;

· Holly’s House to support mental health services for abuse survivors; and

· Youth First to support the Reconnecting Youth Program in area high schools.

In addition, three finalist organizations each received a $10,000 grant:

· Boys and Girls Club of Evansville;

· Evansville Christian Life Center; and

· Ozanam Family Shelter.

“I am so pleased that, through the generous donations of Women’s Fund members, we are able to financially support the critical work of six great organizations in our community. The Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County held their annual meeting on Thursday, October 19 at the Evansville Country Club. Members of the Fund voted for one of three finalist organizations to receive their annual $30,000 Impact Grant, while the other two finalists are awarded $5,000 grants.

This year, Holly’s House was awarded this year’s $30,000 grant to support technology upgrades. “In a time when we are receiving a record number of reports of child abuse, it’s important to equip our teams with the technology necessary to complete investigations. We’re grateful to the Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County for recognizing the need and helping to keep our community safe”, stated Kristine Cordts, Holly’s House Executive Director.

The other two finalists, Evansville Christian Life Center and Tri-State Food Bank, were each awarded $5,000 grants.

This is the eighth year for the Impact Grants which support various programs benefiting residents of Vanderburgh County. Past Impact Grant recipients include: The Boys and Girls Club of Evansville, Cancer Pathways Midwest, Dream Center Evansville, Easterseals Rehabilitation Center, EVSC Foundation for the Hangers program, Ozanam Family Shelter, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh Announces Impact Grant Finalists

The Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County has announced the six finalist organizations to be considered for their 2023 Impact Grant awards. This year’s Impact Program finalists are Evansville Christian Life Center and Holly’s House. The Impact Project finalists are Albion Fellows Bacon Center and the Ozanam Family Shelter. Finalists for the Impact Substance Abuse grant are the Boys and Girls Club of Evansville and Youth First. Grant recipients will be announced at the Women’s Fund Annual Meeting on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

After a meticulous deliberation process that begins with a review of funding requests, the Women’s Fund will award three impact grants aimed at improving the quality of life for Vanderburgh County families. At the annual meeting, members will select three organizations to receive $35,000 grants. Two of the grants focus on an Impact Program and an Impact Project, while the third grant opportunity is for either a program or project focused on substance abuse prevention or services. The remaining three organizations will receive $10,000 grant awards.

“Because of our members’ generosity, we are able to look back fondly and with pride on seventeen years of impact giving totaling more than $2 million in grants”, stated Donita Wolf, co-chair of the Women’s Fund board of directors. “It is exciting to work with such a large group of female philanthropists dedicated to improving our community.”

Community Foundation Alliance Recognizes Staff Member Melissa Rudolph Through New Grant Program

The Community Foundation Alliance would like to congratulate staff member Melissa Rudolph on her recent anniversary of employment. Rudolph selected Friends of Woodmere Dog Park to receive a $500 grant through the Generosity at Work Grant Program to recognize her work anniversary with the Alliance.

The recently introduced Generosity at Work Grant Program enables Alliance staff members to contribute to the communities they serve by recommending a $500 grant to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of their preference through the Ronald L. Bauer Regional Fund on their work anniversary.

Rudolph recently celebrated her fourth work anniversary as the Executive Assistant with the Community Foundation Alliance, supporting all nine county affiliates in southwest Indiana. She works closely with the President and CEO ensuring efficiency in all aspects of operations. Rudolph diligently focuses on our mission, which allows for a greater impact within our communities. She is vital to the effectiveness and sustainability of our organization.

As both a dog owner and an advocate for creating pet-friendly spaces in Vanderburgh County, she acknowledges the potential this initiative holds. She believes that this upcoming dog park will serve as a venue for pet owners to foster social connections among their furry companions while ensuring they receive the necessary exercise.

Rudolph's generous contribution to the dog park project will have a significant impact, as it will be matched dollar for dollar through a special matching grant provided by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority Campaign. Vanderburgh Community Foundation Recognizes Local Advisory Board Members

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation would like to recognize board members who recently completed their volunteer service on the county advisory board: Josh Armstrong and Rob Henson. In addition, a special thanks is extended to Dick Eykamp, who retired after serving three consecutive terms on the advisory board and two terms on the Alliance board of directors. We extend a heartfelt appreciation for their service and dedication to making a lasting impact in our community.

Mark Kniese Scholarship Award Recipients Announced

The Community Foundation Alliance has announced the recipients of this year’s Mark Kniese Scholarship. The annual scholarship is made possible by a fund established through August Neal in memory of Mark Kniese, who had been a counselor with her at Camp Carson in Princeton. In addition to demonstrating dedication to and rapport with campers, applicants must exhibit the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Breanna Bailey from Evansville, Indiana, and Clark Fehrenbacher from Chandler, Indiana have been selected to each receive a $2,500 scholarship.

Bailey is attending the University of Southern Indiana where she is studying biology. She commented, “I am so happy to receive the Mark Kniese Scholarship. It warms my heart to know that his love for camp still goes on strong and that I get to share that with many others as well.” Bailey continued, “Without camp, I would not be the person I am today. I would not have experienced all these wonderful opportunities. I am truly honored to work as a counselor at Camp Carson.”

Fehrenbacher is attending Indiana University where he is studying human biology. “Camp Carson is a truly magical place. From attending when I was just seven years old, to working there this past summer, it truly amazes me of the impact this camp has on our youth. It has always let me express my truest self and allowed me to focus on being the best person I can possibly be. It has taught me to constantly better myself and that I am valued,” stated Fehrenbacher.

He went on to say, “As a young man in the military, the looming possibility of getting deployed weighs a lot on your mental health. Being only 20 years old I have to live with that, but Camp Carson relieves that stress by allowing me to be a kid again. It also gives me a legacy to leave behind by impacting so many kids. This camp has truly changed my life.”

2023 marks the 21 ^st year of the Mark Kniese Scholarship with awards totaling just over $57,500.

Community Foundation Alliance Recognizes Staff Member Michele Gates

The Community Foundation Alliance would like to congratulate staff member Michele Gates on her recent anniversary of employment. Gates selected Mae’s Way Foundation to receive a $500 grant through the Generosity at Work Grant Program to recognize her work anniversary with the Alliance.

The recently introduced Generosity at Work Grant Program enables Alliance staff members to contribute to the communities they serve, on their work anniversary, by recommending a $500 grant to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of their preference through the Ronald L. Bauer Regional Fund.

Gates recently celebrated her first work anniversary as the Program Assistant supporting the work of the Chief Program Officer and the program staff in the Alliance’s footprint of nine local county affiliates. Gates embodies philanthropy through both her career and personal life, as the founder of Mae’s Way Foundation, and she can often be heard sharing the words “You Matter” to those around her. Her passion for helping those left behind by suicide fueled her to write the book Mae The Courageous Caterpillar which invites children who have suffered a loss to know and feel they matter.

It only seemed natural that Gates’ $500 grant was awarded to Mae’s Way Foundation for general support. "Passion fuels purpose, and supporting an organization you deeply care about not only empowers its mission but also ignites a fire within you to create meaningful change," explained Gates. “As a child left behind by suicide, I wanted to build an organization to remind other children they are not alone and they are loved.” The Foundation’s camps, workshops, resources, scholarships, and mental health counseling assistance are just a few ways they reach those children.

Mae’s Way Foundation was established in 2021 as an organization to reach, serve, and support children (and their families) left behind by suicide. Vanderburgh Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications For The 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program

The 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) application is now available in Vanderburgh County through the Vanderburgh Community Foundation. The LECSP will provide 147 scholarships statewide and three scholarships in Vanderburgh County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally through the Vanderburgh Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

• graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2024 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2024;

• intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

• meet the criteria specific to their local Community Foundation.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: Academic Ability, Community Activities, Extracurricular Activities/ Employment, Honors and Awards, Personal Statement of Goals, Essays, and an Interview. The Vanderburgh Community Foundation will submit recommendations for three of the finalists to receive the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The nominees will be submitted to ICI for the final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $486 million. More than 5,000 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

The primary purposes of the LECSP are: 1) to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana; 2) to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and 3) to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is accepting online applications for the Men’s Fund and Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County Grants Programs. Vanderburgh Community Foundation Celebrates 30 Years of Giving

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation celebrated 30 Years of Giving on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at City View in Evansville. The 30 ^th Anniversary celebration honored the past, present, and future by announcing grants to local nonprofits serving Vanderburgh County and a special matching gift opportunity.

The 30 Years of Giving celebration provided the opportunity for the Vanderburgh Community Foundation to award a Transformational Change Grant in the amount of $300,000. This grant was awarded to Potter’s Wheel in support of the Evansville Promise Network. The grant supports collaboration between Potter’s Wheel and Dream Center Evansville to increase the number of students in the Glenwood school neighborhoods who are participating in a Cradle to Career Continuum of education support and wrap-around services. Two additional $30,000 grants were awarded to Habitat for Humanity of Evansville and the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana to support programming which addresses the underlying contributors to inter-generational poverty in our community.

For the past 30 years, the Vanderburgh Community Foundation has proven that the journey together is united in purpose and vision. With more than one hundred established endowment funds, it is truly remarkable to note the growth experienced since the foundation’s inception. The endowed assets are over $31.8 million which has supported $15.8 million in charitable grants to help Vanderburgh County flourish.

“This celebration served as a testament to the power of collaboration and the unwavering commitment citizens in Vanderburgh County have shown to making our community a better place,” said Sarah Wagner, Regional Director of Development for the Vanderburgh Community Foundation. To memorialize this special year, the Support & Sustain Agency Fund Matching Gift Program was created to allow nonprofits with already established agency funds a way to significantly increase their endowments. This opportunity will be available now through December 31, 2023.

At the celebration, the Vanderburgh Community Foundation announced recently awarded grants totaling $112,694.10 through their Community Good Grant Program. These grants were awarded to the following organizations:

· Albion Fellows Bacon Center for computer technology to support the Survivor Advocacy Services;

· Ark, Inc. to support the Ark Crisis Nursery 2-Gen program;

· Aurora to support the Homeless Outreach and Re-Entry programs;

· Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana for the One-to-One Mentoring program;

· Bread of Life Ministry for the Feeding the Hungry program;

· Children’s Center for Dance Education for “The Children’s Nutcracker” education video project;

· Easterseals Rehabilitation Center for training, education, and services addressing mental health needs in our community;

· Evansville Christian Life Center to support the Food Co-op;

· Holly’s House to support advocacy services;

· Little Lambs of Evansville for services to support building a community of safe and healthy children;

· Meals on Wheels of Evansville to support meal delivery services;

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is now accepting online applications for their Community Good Grants Program. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, February 17, 2023 at 5 p.m.

The Foundation awards Community Good grants to charitable partners located in or directly serving Vanderburgh County. Funding opportunities are available to support a broad range of local needs. Consideration will be given to organizations that demonstrate:

Commitment to long-range planning, financial stability and sustainability;
Solid, realistic plans for program/project evaluation;
Desire to promote collaboration among organizations or institutions to prevent duplication of services;
Project methodology utilizing a preventative approach to addressing the issues and solving problems; and
Evidence of realistic organizational planning and management.

Agencies and projects not eligible for funding include religious organizations proposing activities that support a religious purpose, political parties or campaigns, endowment creation or debt reduction, capital campaigns, annual appeals or membership contributions, and travel requests for groups or individuals such as bands, sports teams, or school classes.

Vanderburgh Community Foundation Announces The 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipients

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is pleased to announce the three recipients of the 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Vanderburgh County – Marshall Craft of Evansville Day School, John (Jack) Logan of Reitz Memorial High School, and Tyler Myers of Evansville Day School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

Marshall Craft is the son of Jeremy and Angela Craft. He is interested in a career in engineering and robotics. Marshall is an active volunteer, having served with the Evansville Rescue Mission, Jacob’s Village, and Tri-State Food Bank. Marshall also participates in numerous activities at school including leadership council, musical productions, sports, and robotics.

John “Jack” Logan is the son of C. Patrick and Bethany Logan. He is interested in chemical engineering. Jack has volunteered with Teen Power and Camp Ondessonk. Jack also participated in numerous sports, Model UN, and Drama Club.

Tyler Myers is the son of Eric and Dana Myers. He is interested in studying psychology and pursuing a career as a psychiatrist. Tyler has volunteered with the Tri-State Food Bank, Easterseals, Dream Center, Susan B. Komen, and Feed My Starving Children. He also founded Sensory Inclusion, a local nonprofit organization that provides noise-canceling headphones and other items to assist special needs individuals to cope with overstimulating environments. During high school, he participated in Student Leadership Council, sports, and yearbook.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years. The scholarship is for undergraduate students studying on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars may also participate in the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects both current scholars and alumni with resources and opportunities to be active leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and Indiana Humanities.

“Our community has many students who excel both academically and in service to others. The selection process is never easy,” said Hardgrave.

The Lilly Endowment created the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program for the 1998-99 school year and has supported the program every year since with grants totaling in excess of $486 million. Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County Announces Six Grants Totaling $135,000

The Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County recently awarded its 2022 Impact Grants to three local nonprofits, each of whom received a $35,000 grant . This year’s recipients are:

EVSC Foundation for the Hangers program;
Lampion Center to provide counseling services; and
YWCA to repair and renovate their kitchen.

In addition, three finalist organizations each received a $10,000 grant :

Youth First .

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is excited to announce the opening of the community scholarship awards cycle for 2023.

“Many donors have honored their loved ones, high schools, or professions by endowing scholarship opportunities through the Community Foundations,” says Sidney Hardgrave, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “We administer scholarship funds established by individuals, families, and organizations to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Programs.”

Eligibility requirements and selection criteria for each scholarship are determined by the scholarship founder. Each scholarship is unique and supports students with a variety of backgrounds and educational goals. Vanderburgh Community Foundation Kicks Off 30th Anniversary Activities By Awarding $360,000 in Grants

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation announced plans for its yearlong 30 ^th anniversary celebration at a kickoff event on November 16 at Glenwood Leadership Academy. The three main components of the celebration are Transformational Change Grants totaling $360,000; a matching gift opportunity for local nonprofit partners; and a 30 ^th Anniversary Event.

1. Transformational Change Grants were awarded to the following organizations:

· Potter’s Wheel & Dream Center - $300,000 for a scaled expansion of the Evansville Promise Network, a joint project of the two organizations, in the Glenwood and Jacobsville neighborhoods. This program provides educational and wraparound support to students and their families at Glenwood Leadership Academy, Delaware Elementary School, and North Junior High School.

Through this Transformation Change Grant, Potter’s Wheel and Dream Center will expand their reach to include 300 children by the end of 2024.

· Habitat for Humanity of Evansville - $30,000 for the Almost Home program that seeks to create a path to homeownership by providing one-on-one coaching on financial literacy and debt reduction.

· YMCA - $30,000 to offset costs of building and equipping a community kitchen that will serve children and families in the Caldwell/Glenwood neighborhood through the CenterPoint Energy YMCA.

2. Matching Gift Opportunity – The Support & Sustain Campaign is for partnering nonprofits who hold agency funds with the Community Foundation to grow their endowment. The campaign will launch in December 2022.

3. The Vanderburgh Community Foundation will host a 30 ^th Anniversary Party in May of 2023. Additional details will be provided in early 2023.

Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County Awards $40,000 In Grants

The Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County held their annual meeting on Thursday, October 27 at the Evansville Country Club. Members of the Fund voted for one of three finalist organizations to receive their annual $30,000 Impact Grant, while the other two finalists were awarded $5,000 grants.

This year, Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s Nobody Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town program was awarded this year’s $30,000 grant. This program provides for the building and delivery of beds and bedding to children ages 3 to 17 who do not currently have a bed. “With this grant, we will be able to provide beds for over 200 children in Vanderburgh County”, stated Paul Watzlavik who coordinates the volunteers and delivery of beds for the program.

The other two finalists, Ozanam Family Shelter and Tri-State Food Bank were each awarded $5,000 grants.

This is the seventh year for the Impact Grants which support various programs benefitting residents of Vanderburgh County. Past Impact Grant recipients and projects include: The Boys and Girls Club of Evansville, Cancer Pathways Midwest, Dream Center Evansville, Easterseals Rehabilitation Center, EVSC Foundation for the Hangers program, and Ozanam Family Shelter. This year’s grantmaking awards bring the Men’s Fund’s total grants to an impressive $232,300 since inception in 2015.

The Women’s Fund of Vanderburgh County has announced the six finalist organizations to be considered for their 2023 Impact Grant awards. After a meticulous deliberation process that begins with a review of funding requests, the Women’s Fund will award three impact grants aimed at improving the quality of life for Vanderburgh County families. Two of the grants focus on an Impact Program and an Impact Project. The Women’s Fund added a third grant opportunity this year with a focus on Mental Health.

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is collaborating with three local organizations to offer services for individuals and families striving to improve their financial security. Through Paving Access to Hope and Success (PATHS) individuals can access wrap-around support services as they focus on improving their financial stability. The PATHS Family Service Coordinators provide assistance in setting goals and facilitating access to other services which best align with the program participant’s individual goals.

The Dream Center Evansville, Memorial Community Development Corporation, and Potter’s Wheel have partnered to provide services in the Center City, Jacobsville, and Tepe Park neighborhoods.

The PATHS Project was developed through an extensive community needs assessment process and numerous conversations with community partners, as part of the Lilly Endowment GIFT VII Initiatives in Vanderburgh County. Through this process, the community determined that numerous resources are available to families seeking to improve their financial stability. Connecting with the correct resource, however, is not always an easy task. PATHS utilizes neighborhood based, wrap-around support to help participants navigate the network of services available in our community.

Services available through PATHS include: individualized goal planning, identification of resources, and program referrals. The project is structured around establishing long-term relationships between the Family Services Coordinator and program participants. The program is free to individuals seeking to make positive changes and willing to commit to participating in the program. Examples of areas where support is available include job training, employment, financial management skills, and finding solutions to overcome other barriers or challenges.

Vanderburgh Community Foundation Announces Special $300,000 Grant Opportunity

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is excited to announce the largest single grant in the Foundation’s history. In honor of the 30th Anniversary, the Foundation has opened a special $300,000 grant opportunity. Applications will be accepted from local nonprofits planning or implementing a transformational change initiative benefitting Vanderburgh County.

Since 1992, the Vanderburgh Community Foundation has provided support to local nonprofits and students through the charitable legacies of generous donors. This special grant cycle will allow the Foundation to lead significant positive change for Vanderburgh County.

“For 30 years, the Vanderburgh Community Foundation has been proud to support the crucial and selfless work of area nonprofits,” said Jim Back, Advisory Board President. “To mark our 30th anniversary, we are announcing a $300,000 transformational grant opportunity for a local nonprofit. This transformational grant will kick off our 30th Anniversary celebration and help lay the foundation for the next 30 years.”

Interested applicants should apply with a Letter of Interest providing a broad introduction to the proposed program or project, and the intended impact for Vanderburgh County. Letters of Interest must be submitted, using the foundation’s online grant management system, by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022.

Applications will be considered from nonprofit organizations that are deemed tax exempt under 501(c)(3) and 509(a) of the Internal Revenue. Applications from nonprofit organizations not classified as a 501(c)(3) public charity may be considered, provided the program or project is charitable and supports a community need. The applicant organization may be required to obtain a fiscal sponsor to receive the grant.

The project of program must provide support in one the following areas:

Community Development

Education

Environment

Health

Human Services

Youth Development

Applications will be evaluated with a focus on the following priorities: transformational change, measurable outcomes, collaboration, sustainability, and recognition and awareness.

Upon review of the Letters of Interest, organizations may be invited to submit a full proposal.

Community Foundations Now Accepting Applications for Community Scholarship Programs

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation and the Warrick County Community Foundation are excited to announce the opening of the community scholarship awards cycle for 2022.

“Many donors have honored their loved ones, high schools, or professions by endowing scholarship opportunities through the Community Foundations,” says Sidney Hardgrave, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “We administer several scholarship funds established by individuals, families, and organizations to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Programs.”

Eligibility requirements and selection criteria for each scholarship are determined by the scholarship founder. Each scholarship is unique and supports students with a variety of backgrounds and educational goals. Students may apply for one or more scholarships, as long as they meet the specific eligibility requirements. Details about each scholarship and the application requirements are posted online.

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation offers 25 endowed scholarships providing over $75,000 in support each year. Community scholarship applications are due by 11:30pm on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Vanderburgh Community Foundation Announces 2022 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipients

The Vanderburgh Community Foundation is pleased to announce Brandon Foster, Aleilah Nisley, and Santosharupa Ponna as the 2022 recipients of the Vanderburgh County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character and leadership.

“Vanderburgh County is fortunate to have many high achieving students. We received over 90 applications for this year’s scholarship. I’m always impressed with the quality of applicants and how many students in our area excel both academically and in their service to the community,” said Sidney Hardgrave, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact for the Vanderburgh Community Foundation.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of undergraduate study, on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

Brandon Foster is the son of Robert and Kimberly Foster, of Evansville. He is a senior at Evansville Day School and plans to study history and biochemistry. His career goal is to become a physician. In addition to exceling academically, Foster has been involved in a variety of school activities, including Student Council, speech, concert band, Venture Club and numerous sports. Outside of school, Foster spends much of his time giving back to the community. He volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Salvation Army, and Youth Resources. Foster also has a deep passion for Holocaust awareness. He volunteered with CANDLES Holocaust Museum and developed a Holocaust awareness curriculum for middle school students in Indiana.

Aleilah Nisley is the daughter of Adam and Rebekah Nisley, of Evansville. She is a senior at Mater Dei High School and plans to study business management. Nisley’s career goal is to work in international business development. Along with her academic success, she has been involved in a variety of school activities including Student Council, marching band, and numerous academic bowl teams. Outside of school, Nisley is active with the United Catholic Youth Ministry and volunteers with Vacation Bible School, and SWIRCA & More. She enjoys learning about other cultures and hopes to study abroad while in college.

Santosharupa Ponna is the daughter of Veera Ponna and Sarita Gogula of Newburgh. She is a senior at Signature School and plans to study chemistry to pursue a career in pediatric oncology. In addition to her academic achievements, Ponna has been involved in a variety of school activities including Student Council, Spanish Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. Her community activities include participation in Youth Resources and Kuchipudi dancing. Ponna is also the co-founder of the Kickstart Tennis Foundation and Prevention Youth Council in collaboration with Albion Fellows Bacon Center. Through her participation with the Prevention Youth Council, she has assisted with creating a podcast series focusing on creating dialogue around healthy relationships and reducing stigmas and misunderstanding related to sexual and relationship violence.

In nominating Vanderburgh County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, consideration was given to each student’s academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and service to the community. After the field of applicants was narrowed down by the Vanderburgh County Community Foundation’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) Committee, nominees were submitted to the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, Independent Colleges of Indiana, for final review and approval of the scholarship recipients.

The LECSP is administered locally by the Community Foundation, with the support of local high schools, and the administrative oversight by the Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. Lilly Endowment created the LECSP for the 1998-1999 academic year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling in excess of $439 million. More than 5,000 Indiana students have received the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship since the program’s inception.

Men's Fund of Vanderburgh County Awards $35,000 in Grants

The Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County held their annual meeting on Thursday, October 28 at the Evansville Country Club. Members of the Fund voted for one of three finalist organizations to receive their annual Impact Grant. The Impact Grant recipient was awarded $25,000, while the other two finalist organizations received grants of $5,000 each.

This year’s grantmaking awards bring the Men’s Fund total grants to an impressive $192,300, since inception in 2015.

This is the sixth year for the Impact Grants which support programs benefiting Vanderburgh County. Past impact grant recipients and projects include Dream Center Evansville’s Jacobsville Kids Zone program, Easterseals Rehabilitation Center’s Mental Health Services, EVSC Foundation for the Let's Put the Shirts on Their Backs Hangers program; Ozanam Family Shelter for fire protection and kitchen upgrades; and Boys and Girls Club of Evansville’s Passport to Manhood program.

On Thursday night, the Men’s Fund members elected Cancer Pathways Midwest as the $25,000 Impact Grant recipient. The grant will support the Guy Time – surviving to thriving program which focuses on building bonds of connection, resiliency, restoration and fun in spite of a cancer diagnosis.

In addition, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana received a $5,000 grant to support the One-to-One Mentoring Program which provides youth with a professionally screened and supported volunteer for one-to-one mentoring relationships. The Louis J. Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville also received a $5,000 grant to support the Access for All initiative focused on expanding programs focused on ensuring every child and family in the community can visit the museum regularly.

The Men’s Fund of Vanderburgh County offers enjoyable social events and networking opportunities, all while raising funds to meet community needs. The group supports charitable causes in the community which address projects and programs important to the Men’s Fund members.
